Yikes-- I haven't heard anything this wild since the Kona, Hawaii DXpedition! Thanks to Nick for his extremely detailed report describing the Chinese onslaught during sunrise enhancement all over the band. My own focus was on the low band, where several unusual Chinese stations moved in to replace the Korean regulars, managing their best level in many years.. Although overshadowed by the Chinese wave during sunrise enhancement 657-Pyongyang BS reached one of its best levels ever here with martial music at 1418 (S9+), while 972-HLCA was also at that level for much of the predawn darkness. As usual the potent Korean signals started off around 1230 in the frozen back yard, kicking off a 3 hour endurance contest as a 15" FSL was used in the subfreezing temperature to avoid indoor RFI noise. The DXing gear held up quite well in the 27 degree cold-- at least much better than the frozen DXer.
657-China (Henan?) was one of the stars of sunrise enhancement, courteously silencing Pyongyang BS' martial music at 1442 by taking over the frequency. 603-China (Hulun Buir?) was giving 603-HLSA's easy listening music some severe competition at 1455, while 756-CNR1 was all alone at a potent level. Other unusual Chinese were also in play at the time, but after about three hours in the 27 degree weather my digital recorder was showing evidence of going on strike-- not to mention the frozen CC Skywave with its ice-covered display. The hot sunrise enhancement propagation was just barely enough to keep the frozen DXer at the chase-- probably far longer than sensible.
