[IRCA] TP 13 Feb Victoria version
Just as well that the TAs didn't amount to much this evening. There was too much to do going through the morning's DX, and I'm sure there was a great deal in that madhouse of signals that I missed through lack of time to listen patiently through each channel. Post sunrise wasn't quite as productive as yesterday, but HLAZ lasted long enough to get a VoA ID at 1701UT, 100 minutes after local sunrise.
pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly):
594 JOAK man in Japanese 1508UT
747 JOIB choral music 1458UT; still somewhat readable with music box s/off at 1603UT
774 JOUB man in Japanese 1507UT; still pretty readable at 1600UT s/off with JOUB ID and anthem
828 JOBB very big indeed with man in Japanese 1501UT
972 HLCA man in Korean 1505UT
1566 HLAZ man in Chinese,1456UT and a number of other times at this strength; heck there was a man in Russian at 1648 and 1640-1UT, perfectly readable. Then there was the Voice of America news mention by man at 1701UT, followed by another man in Korean. The recording finished at 1702UT, but the signal strength recorder indicates readable audio as late as 1728UT
Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):
558 HLQH male ballad //603 which was quite weak, 1455UT; KBS jingle 1459UT, and single pip heard on hour
603 woman in Chinese 1429UT; mostly this put HLSA in the shade this morning
639 CNR1 man in Chinese 1511UT; paralleled with several others over the session
693 JOAB many times when 690 splatter allowed //774 etc.
1287 JOHR man with HBC ID 1455UT; woman in Japanese 1518UT
1557 Taiwan woman in Chinese 1528UT; best on north Flag
not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker:
567 JOIK woman in Japanese //594 1453UT
657 N. Korea, man in Korean 1447UT
738 Taiwan Fisheries woman talking //1143 1442UT
756 CNR1 man in Chinese //639 1511UT
837 man in Chinese 1434UT, CNR5?
873 JOGB woman talking //828 1437UT
936 slow oriental flute music 1443UT; China?
945 CNR1 man in Chinese //639 1520UT
954 JOKR man in Japanese, briefly this level 1437UT
891 JOHK woman in Japanese //594, NHK interlude music 1456UT
981 CNR1 peaked at 1509UT //639, woman in Chinese
1134 KBS female ballad, slow Korean talk by man 1506UT
Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)
531 JOQG man and woman in Japanese //594 1432UT
540 Chinese pips 1500UT under CBC,also NHK style pips.
576 ballads, best on north Flag 1454UT; also across hour, no ID?
585 man talking Chinese intonation 1451UT
603 HLSA, //558 (above) 1455UT
612 JOLK jazz //594 1452UT
612 man talking slowly, didn't sound like DU English mixing with JOLK
666 JOBK woman talking //594
702 man talking sounded like DU English 1433UT
837 JOQK NHK1 interlude music 1510UT
846 NHK1 riding on carrier from assumed Christmas Island; NHK1 interlude music 1435UT; seemed to be other signals also
918 woman and man talking, Chinese intonation 1521UT
1089 classical orchestral music, likely CNR6 1552UT
1098 man talking Chinese intonation; 1548UT
1143 Taiwan Fisheries 1442UT; see 738 parallel above
1251 CNR1 man talking //639 1458UT
1422 woman talking Chinese intonation 1529UT
1503 JOUK man talking //594 1532UT
1575 man mumbling 1456UT; nothing noted on hour; VoA?
1593 NHK2 man and woman talking //747 1533UT
1593 woman singing 1602UT; not NHK2 which was signing off, so likely CNR1
Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter)
549 675 684 819 855 864 1053 1152 1179 1314 1206 1242 1269 1278 1323 1359 1386 1458 seemed to be Asian;
846 1017 seemed to be DU
best wishes,
Nick
