Thanks for the sunrise TP-DX report from Victoria, Nick, which was very interesting by comparison.
<<< Just about the time the sun came up so did some pretty unusual DX,
and it was in an out for another half hour. NHK1 on 1224, CNR6 on
1089, that sort of thing. Not quantity perhaps, but certainly
quality. At times 1098 was the strongest overseas signal on the band
with Chinese. >>>
As you guessed I really didn't stick around to notice or investigate this later TP opening, having already pushed my luck by staying up until 1300 UTC to do some A/B antenna testing, 657's signal around 1230 was pretty exceptional, though, making me wonder what sunrise enhancement would bring. Since the focus here was on 657, 603 and 972 , when they started to bail out around 1430 the feeling was pretty contagious. The back yard was completely frozen at the time, and the portable DXing gear (modified ICF-2010, modified CC Skywave and IC recorder) all had started going on the blink (along with their operator) after three hours of arctic-like exposure.
