[IRCA] TP 20 Sep Victoria version

Like yesterday erratic signals, hard work to dig things out, and yet there were odd things in the depths. Again, lots of carriers close to audio, maybe there was audio, given the sudden fade ups that were occurring, but darned if I'm going to listen to each channel for 15-30 minutes.

Given the very unsettled geomagnetic conditions, I would have expected fewer Asians and more DUs, but there actually seemed to be fewer DUs today. In fact the lack of marked effect from K indices of 4 and even 5 on the Asian reception seems very unusual from what I can remember.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly):

747 JOIB Chinese lessons 1339UT
774 JOUB English lessons 1237UT and many other times
828 JOBB English lessons 1234UT and other times
972 HLCA man in Korean 1258UT
1287 JOHR woman in Japanese 1344-5UT
1566 HLAZ woman in Japanese 1237UT after a choir; still can't hear Gary's jammer, even though I think I had Chinese on 1593 for a couple of minutes around 1341-2UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

567 JOIK woman and man in Japanese 1241UT //594
594 JOAK woman and man in Japanese 1241UT //567
702 NHK2 woman talking, briefly at the level 1341UT
873 JOGB more on the fascinating topic of wedding dresses (really, the things I learn about on NHK2) //774 1322UT
1053 Korean jammer 1235UT etc.

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker:

558 HLQH slow choral music 1327UT //603 much weaker
702 2BL assumed 1238UT, man and woman in DU English
891 JOHK Japanese talk //594 1318UT
1242 JOLF? with pop music 1341UT
1503 JOUK man talking Japanese //594 1323UT
1386 NHK2 English lessons //774 at 1322UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music)

666 JOBK man in Japanese //594 1321UT
675 RNZ National 1332UT man talking //567 which was battling with JOIK
576 man talking DU English? 1303UT
603 HLSA man and woman talking too murky for language guess 1301UT but traces of //558
612 4QR DU English (presumably) woman talking //702 1348UT
612 JOLK man talking Japanese //594 1335UT
693 JOAB male/female talk //774 1244 UT, in monster 690 splat
891 unID man talking, thought it was Japanese, but not //594 1304UT, Korea?
918 unID pop muic 1340UT
954 woman talking, Japanese inflection 1257 and 1341UT
963 woman talking, could be Russian 1337UT
981 man talking, Chinese inflection 1307UT
1044 3 and one pips 1300UT, so maybe Korea? no sign of CRI
1143 Taiwan Fisheries vocal music //738 1321UT
1206 Yanbian? woman talking, maybe Korean? 1301UT
1323 woman talking, could be Russian? 1314UT
1593 assertive male talk, Chinese inflection 1342UT, not //774

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter) lots of near audio here

729 756 855 864 882 909 945 999 1017 1035 1098 1107 1134 1179 1251 1269 1422 1575

best wishes,

Nick
