This topic seems to come up periodically.. I've owned a Panasonic RF-2200
since 1978, and it's still the best MW DX machine! IMHO it's a little too
hefty to be considered a portable. A "portatop", to use the term coined by
the WRTVH, (or was it Passport to World Band radio?) is more like it.

I've used a Grundig YB400PE since January 2003, and it's no RF-2200.
Nonetheless I am quite happy with it, despite its well-documented faults - a
20khz downward "bleed" of strong local signals (e.g. CFTR-680 can be heard
on 660, often at the same level as WFAN), inaccurate clock (a few days after
sync'ing with WWV, it's almost a minute fast), poor battery consumption, and
sometimes questionable quality control.

The YB400 replaced a Panasonic RFB-45, which I had been using for almost 10
years until it suddenly died The cost of having it fixed was more than a new
radio, hence I bought the YB400.

I had one of the first-generation GE SuperRadios, in 1980.. As a dx rig. it
wasn't too bad, though it died when the dial cord pulley snapped.
