I went fishing last night in the Gulf Of
Mexico SW of St. Petersburg and took along my Eton E10. I was able to copy
Mauritania on 4845 kc and Ghana on 4915 kc with very strong signals. So I'm
verifying the observation in MA. I was also able to copy VOA on 17820 in the
Phillipines and R. Australia on 17795 and these signals were also
strong.
BTW recently I purchased an Eton E10. While
it is darned good on shortwave and FM with the built in whip antenna, it's
dismally poor on the MF AM broadcast band. Well before sunset over salt water
Panama City on 590 kc, Tallahassee on 1070 kc, Key West on 1600 kc and New
Orleans on 870 kc were barely audible. Houston on 740 kc and Corpus Christi on
1030 kc were inaudible. But on the Grundig S350 all above mentioned
stations were loud.
