I had a fairly long conversation with one of my colleagues the other day,
and the conversation got around to IBOC. He bought a Panasonic HD Radio as
some of his clients are using IBOC.
One thing he said that was intriguing is that when tuned to a non-local
channel at dusk, he gets short bits of audio, much like meteor scatter.
That's something I had not expected. Apparently lockup time is pretty
short, at least for that receiver.
Overall he isn't happy with the Panasonic, though. He says the receiver is
not very good, even on semi-locals. It also has no analog RDS capability
for FM.
None of this has given me an incentive to go buy one of the dratted things,
but it is a curiousity.
