Re: [IRCA] [AMFMTVDX] Should Skywave Listening be protected?

I equate trade magazine discussion of IBOC to pharmaceutical advertising aimed at physicians.  They ram the hype down their throat until the pen naturally writes down the miracle drug's name on the piece of paper.  The studies that pronounce the drug as a miracle have been primarily underwritten by pharmaceutical houses that stand to gain millions or billions of dollars.  Then they have to figure out how to do damage control on the unexplained deaths.  In this case, the deaths will be terrestrial radio stations.

Maybe its time to start buying stock in XM and Sirius.

Enjoyed your thoughts re IBOC. Encouraging, conversion costs might prohibit station from implementation, or could cause it to go off air. Encouraging.  Have no intention of buying digital radio to enjoy the miracle of 'traffic info texting'.  I bristle at some bunch of cheap suits at IBOC thinking they can render our existing radios as worthless curios in need of 'upgrade and license'.

Delighted that your contacts in the business pronounce IBOC unworkable.  To hear trade mags tell it, IBOC is greatest thing since fitted sheets. Never mind skywave, when people realize the blanket jamming of their favorite out of town station is due to Ibiquity/qWeerChannel's improved 'service to customers', they'll be irked.
That this system took so long to gain approval and acceptance indicates much common sense opposed it. What was ultimate deciding factor in its favor?
