Re: [IRCA] KTCT Tower Site

I believe Russell City was the name of a neighborhood in an unincorporated area that existed (probably) into the 1950s.  Hayward swallowed it.  A number of obscure places show up on street maps from the 1940s and 1950s, and still showed up on some maps (depending on the map company) into the 1960s.  There are also places in the East Bay (SF Bay Area) like Saranap, Alvarado, Niles, Centerville, Port Chicago and more that no longer officially exist.  San Jose has its share as well as it gobbled its way up to the 1,000,000 mark in population.  There aren't as many on the SF Peninsula, as towns/cities were more clearly defined long before any kind of sprawl.

I see them now. FCCinfo.com shows the tower configuration and that helped a
lot. I'd looked at them before but wasn't sure they were broadcast towers.
Their proximity to the Bay certainly makes a great ground (like KGO and
KCBS; they both show up nicely on the satellite pass). They hammer into
Maui; almost everything goes out to sea at night and they're "only" 10 KW. I
see they've applied for 50 KW nights from that site; once again almost
everything would go out to sea. What benefit will they get from that? Maybe
it looks good on a rate card. KVTA down here used to be 50 KW days and
pushed it all out to sea. That's why they did it. They eventually reduced to
10 KW; 50 KW was too expensive.

There is no Russell City except a Russell City Grill and Catering Company
that appears as a landmark on Google Maps if you don't enter a street
address.
