[IRCA] Re: Quantum Q-Stick Plus+

Dennis,

I have had the Quantum Q-Stick Plus+ for quite some time and am very happy with it.

I have used it with a multi-band portable which had an external antenna connection, but with high pass filter that defeats its use for MW.  I also used it with a Tivoli PAL, which has no external AM antenna connection.  In both cases the Q-Stick noticeably improved reception.

With no batteries to run down, or electronics to introduce noise, the increased signal from the oversized ferrite core is effortless and effective.

I found it especially useful pulling in stations during the more than week long power outage suffered here during last hurricane season. With local transmitters in and out of service, finding somewhere to hear the latest news was at times a challenge.

I doubt you can use the other, more exotic use I found for my Q-Stick.  The description is rather lengthy so I'll not include it here unless others are interested.  Let me just say that when used with a small air core loop on an AM/FM tuner, and using the external antenna connection of the Q-Stick, it was able to both boost signal level and substantially reduce noise from sources like a near-by computer and TV.  I could listen to stations on my stereo set without the annoying whistle usually caused by those devices.  I was so pleased with this, I wrote Gerry Thomas at Radio Plus+ Electronics and related my satisfaction in an uncharacteristic for me, testimonial letter.

If you have any questions about the Q-Stick, I'll be happy to tell you what I know.

I am contemplating buying one of these and would like to hear from people who are using one.
