When we paid $6 a month for CATV, we got 12 over the air stations. 8 from the Bay Area and 4 from Sacramento. A postage stamp cost 6 cents. Today, Comcast expanded basic has 70 channels for $40 and a stamp costs 37 cents. Did the price go up? Inflation is most of it. If cable TV costs kept pace with the USPS, then we'd pay $37 for 12 channels. So $3 pays for another 58 channels, hi...
Actually it's economy of scale. Radio is going the same route. Industry consolidation is one avenue, XM and Sirius another. How does the traditional over the air AM station survive this? Stay tuned... it's going to be interesting. Whether IBOC or DRM works, the general public, especially the younger generation, will expect something more.
XM and Sirius, as their subscriber base goes up, should actually become cheaper over time. But they will have competition from other sources as well. Maybe 3G cellphones, who knows? Enjoy the ride...

Eric's point is well taken. Here in Ca. you will soon need a helmet and a quarter to take a dump in your own bathroom!
Just remember how CATV started....$5 a month .....the satl. radio will soon cost much more than it does now. Once you are hooked ....they got yah!
Support the FREE airwaves.....once you pay... your gone.
Food for thought....John..... Novato,CA.
