Re: [IRCA] Turks and Caicos - 530Khz

Hi Bob,

Going back a "bit," when 620 was WSUN (WDAE not heard yet), they were occasionally heard here with a fair level in the daytime. It was the only Floridian I've heard here in the daytime and being on Florida's "opposite" coast, the reception seemed unusual. Still, I heard it, though I can't explain how.

Yes, Turks is a water path, but when it is occasionally strong enough to over-ride QRM from WETC-540 (a 4 kw "pest" with a strong signal splattering 530-550 here) to maintain a fair level all day on a car radio, I have to wonder what they're using.

My last report to a column, on Turks, was in February....

530 Turks and Caicos R. Visión Cristiana, South Caicos February 6 1430 to after 1600 with vocals, M and W in Spanish, missed ID at 1500, but 1600 ID with Radio...Cristiana ...1330...1310...530...West Indies. Just prior to 1600 ID, mention of New Jersey, Queens and into extended hymn by vocal group. Signal fair to good at ± 950 miles, and OVER local (maybe 5 air miles) Camp Lejeune information station. Re-check about 1700 and still there, much weaker. To clarify, this was 0930 to 1200 ELT...on a car radio. (MH - NC)

Mike, I don't understand all this. If you are in Jax, up to eastern NC, then you should _not_ have a strong signal from 620, which is in St. Petersburg, and has to cross a lot of land mass before reaching you. Also Jax to Turks is a water path which helps a lot as you know. Have I missed something?
