Re: [Swprograms] Defunding public broadcasting

The Vote is Thursday, Call Congress Today!

The U.S. House of Representatives plans to vote on a budget bill that eliminates federal funding for public broadcasting. Without the investment of this funding, many public broadcasting stations across the country will be forced to turn off their transmitters and go dark.

Please call the office of your congressperson today and say that funding for public broadcasting is too important to eliminate. Your calls have already made a big difference in the debate in Congress - but we can’t stop now.

A phone call to Washington is the most effective way for you to make your voice heard. You can also write to Congress by clicking on this link.

    * As you know, public broadcasting is one of the most successful public-private partnerships in America, leveraging each federal dollar to raise six more. This robust, effective and efficient system provides a safe-harbor for children’s programming and brings arts, entertainment, news, information and educational programming to Americans of all ages.

    * Half of all Americans use public broadcasting every month - and yet the federal investment amounts to $1.35 a year per citizen, less than the cost of a cup of coffee.

You are one of the 170 million Americans who tune in to public radio and television every month. It is critical that your voice be heard in Washington now. Please call today!

Sincerely,

Jeff Nelson and Stacey Karp
