Re: [Swprograms] Slightly OT: For whom the bell tolls
In Canuckistan....
Globe and Mail adds
"It is a separate company," Sirius Canada spokesman Jeff Roman said
Tuesday night. "At this point we're not going to speculate," he added.
Satellite radio launched in Canada in late 2005 with XM Canada and
Sirius Canada competing against each other. Despite the merger of the
companies south of the border, the Canadian operations have continued
to run separately. They are exploring possible terms of a merger deal
here and each draw a several dozen channels from the U.S. operation,
through licensing agreements they hold.
Sirius Canada is 40 per cent owned by the CBC, 40 per cent held by
Slaight Communications and 20 per cent held by the U.S. company.
XM Canada is majority owned by fast food, telecom and real estate
executive John Bitove, who holds a 58 per cent stake, while Sirius XM
owns 23 per cent of that brand in Canada. The other 19 per cent is
traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
