This has become a comic opera. The same FCC that over the last two decades has green-flagged just about every merger proposed by NAB commercial radio and tv members, the satellite television industry, the cable television industry, mobile phone industry and bent over backward to try and make a viable industry out of broadband over powerline "technology" has nickel and dimed this tiny part of the broadcasting industry almost to death.

I guess you really do have to grease those campaign palms in Washington...

FCC's Martin Calls for Additional Sat Merger Conditions
Martin noted that none of the other commissioners had expressed
concerns about the deal, but none had made any proposals for
additional terms.

Sat Radio Merger Looking Likely
Contrary to expectations, Commissioner Adelstein said he'll approve
the merger with tighter restrictions.

Michigan Broadcasters Inducted into MAB Hall of Fame
The 2008 Lifetime Achievement award went to Richard Sommerville. Other
Hall of Fame inductees were James Bleicher, Larry Estlack, Gordon A.
Lawrence, Diana Lewis and Mike Whorf.

Dinner and Show held during The NAB Radio Show at the Austin

National Radio Hall of Fame Announces Class of 2008

FCC Sets Schedule for TV White Spaces Tests
The Commission is conducting tests of prototype white spaces devices
as part of its rulemaking to consider authorizing the operation of new
low-power devices in the TV broadcast spectrum at locations where
individual channels/frequencies are not being used for authorized
services.

FCC Dateline
August 1 is the deadline for submission of biennial ownership reports
by radio stations in Illinois and Wisconsin.

On August 1 radio stations with more than 10 full-time employees
located in Illinois and Wisconsin must electronically file their
Broadcast EEO Mid-Term Reports (Form 397) with the FCC.

Also on or before August 1 radio stations licensed in the following
states must place their annual EEO Reports in their public files:
California, Illinois, North Carolina, South Carolina and Wisconsin.
