Re: [Swprograms] OT Linux

How old is your spare PC? How much memory does it have? I ask
because the quickest way to start exploring Linux is through one
of the many LiveCD implementations. My personal favorite right
now is PuppyLinux (http://www.puppylinux.com/). Another popular
one is the Ubuntu series (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu). To work,
all these LiveCDs typically need a working CD drive that your
system can boot from, plus as much RAM as you can provide (128MB
being the bare minimum); the more the better, as the system
actually loads itself into RAM to run.

Most of these LiveCD implementations also have a way to install
themselves onto the hard drive if you so choose.

The biggest hurdle you might run into is the Linux system you
choose recognizing the sound system in the computer, and
secondarily the networking (although the latter is typically a
problem with wireless networking more than wired networking).
