RAJAR data on ways people listen to the radio:
Radio listening remains stable at 45 million people, or 90% of the UK
population.
The Digitally Enabled Universe - defined as those people who have
access to a DAB receiver or have ever listened to the radio via DTV
(digital television) or Internet has increased by 5% from 55% in
Quarter 4, 2006 to 58% this Quarter. 19.5% of the UK population now
live in homes that have a digital radio, up a substantial 43% when
compared to Q1, 2006 (13.6%).
The number of people who claim they have ever listened to the radio
via Digital Television (DTV) and the Internet are both up by 2 points
quarter on quarter; with DTV listening now standing at 41% and
Internet listening at 24.3%. This compares with 36.5% for DTV
listening and 20.8% for Internet listening in Q1, 2006.
10.7% of mobile phone owners (aged 15+) claim to have listened to the
radio via mobile phones, up 22% year on year (8.8% in Q1, 2006). A
quarter of 15-24 year old mobile phone owners say they have listened
to the radio in this way.
Listening to downloaded podcasts also continues to grow. RAJAR
research, this quarter, shows that 2.5 million adults (18% of mp3
player owners) now report that they have used their mp3 player to
listen to downloaded podcasts. This is a significant rise from 2.1
million in Q4, 2006.
