A good discussion, not only in the article, but in the reader comments
after the article.
John F states:
"Much is made about the fact that one needs to pay for the service,
but truthfully we all pay for commercial radio one way or another."
Well, that is true to some extent. However, there is a difference.
With commercial and public radio I have no control over whether I
"pay" for it or not, viz. I have no control over how my taxes are
spent (public radio's financing) or how much various commercial items
cost in the store (which is how I would "pay" for commercial radio, if
I understand John correctly).
However, I do have a direct and real control what I pay for satellite
radio. So for me, it comes down a content vs.cost argument. Is the
content worth the extra and direct cost?
It seems that many (most?) people buy satellite radio as a commuting
companion. I don't have a problem there. (I have a 25-30 minute
commute each way, with no traffic jams.)
So I would want sat radio for the home only. And, again, it comes down
to what I get in content vs. what I have to pay for it
"out-of-pocket".
I'm still undecided.

Peter
