Re: [Swprograms] Sirius Canada (was 'An article fromglobetechnology.com')

Because the CBC does a decent job of producing spoken word programs. They are the only ones who are doing this and I can't see there being much interest from other stations in producing this kind of material. There is lots of talk radio but this is not the same thing!

As a Canadian living in the States I am hoping that the Syrius application is approved so that I have the option of getting CBC radio. This has become more urgent with the pending loss of Newsworld International on TV. They were bought out by Al Gore and the CBC's contract to provide them with content has been axed.

But isn't the basic stumbling block for any Canadian radio station the
amount of Canadian content?

I'm pretty sure that's the hurdle that all three competitors feel they
must cross in order to gain the favo(u)r of the CRTC.

Other than the CBC, who would produce the type of spoken-word audio
you'd like to hear?

Would Canadian markets be able to support public radio stations built
on the US model of listener funding? I am not sure there's enough
demand there.
