This is bit off topic, so I won't take this too far...

I've had the opportunity to hear Friedman speak on two occasions and even to have a short conversation with him.  I understand why you'd make that observation about him; but in a small group, and a one to one situation I found him to be quite personable and a good listener--especially for a person with strong opinions.  

He's serious, informed and genuinely curious about what others' think.  FWIW, I profoundly disagree(d) with his position on the Iraq war, but I have to admit that of all the cases others have tried to make for it, I find his the most compelling and convincing.  But I'm still not convinced.  :-))
