[Swprograms] BBCWS and GMT

Anybody remember that silly British movie "Time Bandits"?

For the past two mornings I have been on the road at 5 AM EDT listening to the PRI feed of the BBCWS program World Update via my local public radio station. At the top of the hour a female announcer said, "It's 10 o'clock GMT" on both days. Now 5 AM EDT is 0900 not 1000 UT.

One guess is BBC has their GMT clock set one hour ahead because they went to British summer time a couple of weeks ago and probably set all their clocks forward. Either that or recognizing that the rest of the international broadcast world runs on UT, they have decided to move GMT to be one hour ahead of UT thinking nobody uses GMT except the BBC so it is their right to do so.

An even more logical explanation is that BBC has that announcement canned in the computer and the feed to PRI is sent one hour earlier than when the program airs on BBCWS in order for it to air in the USA at the same local time it was on before daylight shifting time. I wouldn't know because I don't get BBC on SW much any more so I don't bother to track their SW schedule. Any other ideas?
