Phil Attwell, World DX Club, spotted this one:
Saturday 4th March 6.30 p.m BBC World Service, Sunday 5th March 2.00 a.m BBC
World Service, 4.05 a.m. BBC Radio 4.
It's a Radio Times choice:
Worldplay: The War of the Worlds
In 1938 s radio drama was broadcast that so scared the bejeepers out of
thousands of Americans on Halloween they were convinced that the world was
under attack. It had them scurrying out into the streets, cuasing widespread
panic. There were news flashes that interrupted the schedules and updates
provided by the reporter Carl Phillips who warned his public "Ladies and
gentlemen. this is the most terrifying thing I've ever witnessed. It was of
course the work of Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre production of H.G.
Well's tale. It became the most notorious radio drama in broadcast history.
Based on the 1898 sci-fi classic tale it's the story of a full scale
invasion by desparate, water starved Martians.
This L.A. Theater works revival is truly Trecker heaven as Gates McFadden
aka Dr. Beverley Crusher of Star Trek: The Next Generation plays the
reporter and Star Trek's Mr Spock, Leonard Nimoy is Professor Pearson. His
slow considered voice, so closely associated with the enigmatic Vulcan, has
the power to transport the listener to a place where anything might happen.
And it does.
It will be available on demand for a week from 1832 today at
