Podcasting reminds me of pirate radio, and I mean the small-time one-man
stuff you might hear around 6975. Ok, the technology works, now let's see
who has content worth listening to. Yet, that's always been the case.
Technology comes before quality content. To prove that, just listen to
recordings of first radio broadcasts.
Actually, I found the latest Cambridge podcast rather refreshing. As the man
says, his goal is to give exposure to Cambridge artists who would otherwise
go unnoticed. I believe that's a legitimate need podcasting can address. If
a listener objects to some content, there's always the "stop" icon.

Your are right! Most of the home grown podcasting programs absolutely
stinks. Some of it reminds me of an audioable version of Geocities
webpages. A hodgepodge of junk thrown together is a mixture of confusion and
worthless garbage filled in with profanity, alot of ahhh and oooohhhs. I
have sampled enough of it to realize that this is not going to be the next
big thing unless quality broadcasters jump on board. Many of the quality
programs I have found do not offer RSS feeds that the podcasting programs
like ipodder use. Most of the MP3 listening I have been doing has been DX
programs posted by Alex Draper and amateur radio programs (ARRL, WIAN, ARN,
etc) as well as old time radio programs and famous speeches.
The bottom line with podcasting is if you're a news junkie (world news
stuff)... it's old news by the time you hear it. Real old fashioned knob
twisting radio still works!

Kurt Hanson's RAIN newsletter (http://www.kurthanson.com/) cites two USA
Today articles on "podcasting", which is now the new voguish term for
"on-demand listening", more specifically downloadable on-demand listening.
While this is certainly a "power to the people" phenomenon, and it's hyped
that way, it can still be tough to find content worth listening to. Both
the BBC and NPR are cited in these articles.
