Re: [IRCA] S. AZ TPs, Monday 8/22

Hi KAZ,

The longwire was elevated 10' the whole distance. Critters chew up anything on the ground that catches their fancy, here in the desert (assumed to be packrats), so I can't leave any wire or cable lying on the ground if I want it to last more than a day or two. :)

Steve,

Was that wire directly on the desert ground or was it elevated? Either way,
I'd want to be more that 30-40 ft away from powerlines. Perhaps you'd pick
up less noise if on the ground directly?

I strung a 1100' E/W longwire last week but found it picked up high levels
of AC noise from a parallel powerline some short distance away (30-40')and
was completely useless for weak signals--I took it down today. It was worth
a try as I had no idea how much, if any, a parallel powerline might couple
to the longwire. Now I know! I'll eventually try another location that's
much farther away from the powerline and hope for better results.
