Re: [IRCA] 5CK-639

To put it a different way, all (not just ABC) of South Australia and Norther Territory are on a half hour offset from the east coast and are GMT + 9.5 hours.

So you should expect to hear "TOH" announcements from SA / NT commercial stations at :30 unless on a network that doesn't have separate feeds for SA / NT.

Hi Nick,

Congratulations on your 639-5CK reception.

During my August 2014 Cape Perpetua DXpedition I had strong mix of an ABC LR network station (// 891) and a commercial station (obviously 2HC) on 639 kHz, and figured that I would never know which of the two ABC possibilities (5CK or 4MS) I had received. Fortunately a DXer in South Australia informed me that the ABC network programming in South Australia is delayed 30 minutes from the ABC programming on the east coast, meaning that only 5CK was // 891, and not 4MS. If a DXer can check 891 for a parallel, he can sort out the two LR network possibilities.

To compensate for the lousy conditions of the last couple of
mornings, I think I've nailed down the mystery Aussie on 639 from
Thursday morning.

ABC regional radio has audio archives too apparently, but you have to
go to the specific program to find them. I had recorded a brief
discussion about smaller SUV's last Thursday morning, and the
Nightlife program archive has the same discussion a few minutes
before the news on the hour at 11PM (which I didn't hear due to fade
out)...but I heard that discussion at 1327UT, so it wasn't
4MS. South Australia is 9 1/2 hours ahead of UTC, so 1327UT would be
just before 11PM local time. The archive can be found at
http://www.abc.net.au/nightlife/ under "Catch Up" for the date, but
they only provide the last few days.

Pretty pleased with that, as it's the first time I've heard it at
home, though 4MS would have been quite a catch as well.

best wishes,

Nick
