[IRCA] Grayland 3" FSL Tecsun PL-380 TP & DU-DX for 4-2

As predicted Asian signals dropped off considerably this morning, although there were a couple of exceptions. Except for the big gun TP's nothing really sounded energetic until a fairly decent sunrise enhancement kicked in at 1330, which brought 603-HLSA up to its best level of the DXpedition so far (very good). Except for the big guns most of the Asians bailed early around 1400, although once again there was a one-frequency-only DU opening on 531, which brought upÂ4KZ and PI in their usual snarl just prior to 1400. 4KZ's signal was even improved over yesterday's, withÂits mix of call-in talkback and classic pop music.

At my 1140 start time the Grayland beach was cold and windy, and the band was pretty dreary. Only the NHK big guns and 1566-HLAZ sounded healthy, with yesterday's potent CRI stations practically missing in action. It didn't help matters when even the Japanese big guns started to slide around 1200, leaving 1566-HLAZ's Chinese service as the only really vibrant TP signal on the band until 1300. The NHK big guns and the other usual Japanese on 1134 and 1287 started somewhat of a comeback from 1300-1330, although they never did reach the potent levels of yesterday, and the second-tier Japanese struggled to get out of the noise all session long. On the other hand 603-HLSA seemed to get a sunrise enhancement boost all by itself, reaching a very good level at 1321 that was much stronger than it managed yesterday.ÂDuring peak sunrise enhancement 603-China mixed weakly with HLSA, and both 657-Pyongyang and 1575-VOA came out of the noise to reach fair levels (which Pyongyang never managed yesterday).ÂDespite this the Asians sounded pretty anemic in general, andÂmost of themÂchecked out by 1400. The late DU drama on 531 started about 1355 with an equalÂmix of PI and 4KZ, butÂthe Aussie took over completely by 1358, and stayed dominant until fade out around 1415. A search for other DU's at the time came up empty-- once again proving that 531Âcan haveÂDU propagation in a class by itself.
