[IRCA] 2" FSL Tecsun PL-380 TP-DX for 3-25 (Conclusion)

As reported previously, Asian propagation cooperated very well for the first TP-DXing test of a new 2 inchÂ"Baby FSL" Tecsun PL-380 model (having 5 of the Russian surplus 100mm ferrite bars, instead of 8 as in the 3" model).ÂFrom 1335-1355 there was a monstrous run from 1575-VOA in Thailand, managing its best signal hereÂover the past couple of years. TheÂnew 2" FSL PL-380 model recorded various S9+ peaks from the long range DX station, resulting in one of the most interesting sessionsÂthis year.

At my 1255 start time the usual NHK big guns on 594, 693 and 747 were in and out with good signals, along with 1566-HLAZ. Early on 738 had a strong carrier which stuck around for most of the session, although until increasing daylight it was lost in the KCBS splatter. By 1325 the San Francisco pest started to bite the dust, though, and 738-BEL2 (with the usual female news announcer) rose to weak Chinese audioÂin and out for much of the rest of the session. This was the 16th TP station received on these stand-alone FSL-enhanced PL-380 models. Besides this and an unusually strong signal from the 1053-Jammer around 1330 it seemed like it would be anotherÂJapanese big gun-dominated session, until 1575-VOA came out of nowhere toÂrise up to a blisteringly strong signal by 1338. The tiny 2" FSL PL-380 model looked pretty ridiculous pulling in the 7,329 mile DX station at a local-like level,Âbut that'sÂexactly what happened at 1339 (another bizarre photo of this is posted at https://app.box.com/s/w0zkef8vxhiuk25alko7ay70pygxxu6l  )
Although the rest of the high band was distinctly anemic 1575-VOA stuck around at a potent level from 1335-1355 while theÂNHK big guns on 594, 693, 747 and 828 faded in and out (along with an anemic 603-HLSA) until a general collapse around 1400. Overall the session was pretty astonishing, with 1575-VOA'sÂoverpowering signal the best that it has managed here since 2013.ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
1053Â Korean JammerÂÂ Fairly strong jam session at 1331; best jam signal yet on these hot-rodded PL-380 models

1575Â VOAÂÂ Ban Phachi, ThailandÂÂ Another S9+ recording with female speech and interval music at 1338; the station stayed
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ steady at this blistering level for a full 10 minutes
