Hi All,
I just joined this group yesterday and wanted to introduce myself. I was
pleased to see the IRCA is still alive and well. For several years back in
the 80s I was a regular print subscriber and would send in reports from
Hawaii.
My interest in MW DX'ing goes way, way back to my youth days back in the
60's including highlights such as hearing KPNW Eugene on its first day of
broadcasting, listening to the VOA feed out of the Sacramento Valley (I
never did figure out how that could be heard in MW but I could listen from
the east bay), to the thrill of listening to CONUS stations from some of my
Pacific locations such as Guam, Hawaii, Okinawa, Japan, and Korea. I used
to go the beach in Guam late at night and listen to KNX and other clear
channel stations surge in right before their sunrise some 6,000 miles
away. Luckily most of the Asian stations used the 9 kHz separation which
allowed some of the American stations to slip in between. On one occasion
I remember sending a note to Art Bell that I was listening to his show (I
think it may have been the old KCRL 780) from the beach at midnight and he
later announced that on his show (~ 1995).
My equipment is mostly my old TRF-655 and 656 as well as a GE Superradio,
an old Sony ICF-6700, and my ham equipment (primarily an Icom 720A).
I look forward to following along with the discussions on this group.
Regards,
Ken Waters/N4PBY
