KMYC's website shows a 24/7 conservative talk lineup. KZDG is very likely your 1550. It would have been on day pattern, which sends everything to the west and northwest. It does a lot of strange stuff. 

When DXing on Maui DU was fairly common; even on some rental car radios. In late September of 2001 I heard KOMA (now KOKC) extremely well on a rental car radio. My new bride thought that was cool.   :)    Co-located 1020 and 1150 from Los Angeles were common. KTCT-1050 in the SF Bay Area was also common. It's licensed for 10 kW at night but runs full day 50 kW power and pattern 24/7 under an STA that was granted in 1999 and is extended every six months. The reason is XED cheats big time.
