Re: [IRCA] 15 September TP/DU Victoria B.C. Canada

The vactrol control voltage on the Wellbrook K9AY was fed via the coax. feeder. Two separate wires were used to switch the loops and beam reversal relays.

The rare Wellbrook K9AY Phased array used a fixed 360 Ohm termination resistor. The pattern tweaking was done by varying the Phase/Amplitude.

Colin & Craig -
Principles don't need to be similar - a Vactrol can terminate a Beverage, DKAZ flag, loop, delta, etc.
Are you really using a flag or is it a corner fed loop?
And yes, the K9AY system uses a termination box with a Vactrol. The Wellbrook version had several flavors, but the one I remember also used a Vactrol but unlike most other schemes, DC was fed to the Vactrol via separate wires rather than using the coax to carry DC. Can you be specific about the version you have?

Entirely possible - but I am not an authority on the K9AY --
Principles are similar I think -

I am going to post an article on the subject and open up a discussion area
on the DXer.ca website.

Also looking for a sense if there would be a demand for separate hand-made
VACTROL units
that can be used be the deliciously simple FLAG antenna system/concept.
