Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] Opening to Mexico City

The hour or two prior to local sunrise is also my go-to time for DXing the same directions, from SSW to West. I've had sometimes very good signals deep into Mexico on channels where I never hear a peep out of any Latins at other hours. The precise peaks times usually vary within this window, and sometimes there is nothing much to be had while other times it's action-packed, and sometimes the window is open for only a few minutes. During the recent aurora (mid-late March) I had a couple of days in a row where fantastic stuff was coming in from 0645-0715 and then it all dropped to nothing within a couple of SECONDS, like a switch turned it off. In two consecutive days, I had my first-ever graveyard from Kansas (1490 Topeka) at 960-odd miles, my first ever graveyarders from Nebraska (1340 Kearney and 1400 Ainsworth, Ainsworth checking in at about 1060 miles), 1390 in Meridian MS (MS very rare on the regionals here), and Mexicans crushing WTAM 1100 and WCBS 880 and appearing on regionals like 1410 and 1470. I have tons of audio clips to review (in fact I'm drowning in hours and hours of recordings from the 1560 NYC outage in February).

> Most mornings I get up around 5am and after making coffee and firing up the email I check two things that 'set the tone' for the radio day - first 738 to see if there's a 'trace' of Tahiti [you'd be surprised how often there is a whisp of a carrier floating by though no real audio yet ... after 5+ years] and 760 to remind myself I'm from Michigan and, more importantly, to see if there's anything coming around/through/over WJR.
>
> Yesterday, as I went from 738 to 760 and before I switched the Wellbrook array to 'south' I heard some great ranchera music under WJR. After checking to see that the station was not coming in near as well on the south array I switched back to the west array and set Mestor to record across TOH at 1000utc.
