Chuck,
   Thanks for that additional information.   The oldies genre would 
certainly describe what I was hearing.    If my musical knowledge was a 
bit sharper I would certainly have been able to name the one tune, as it 
was familiar (from the 70's I think). It would seem very likely that it 
was Coast I was hearing.
