Hello All,
The last day at the Rockwork 4 cliff turned out to be the best DU-DXing day of all, with both Australian and New Zealand stations pegging the PL-380 S/N on certain frequencies. Several Aussies which had been weak or MIA all week suddenly became vibrant, and three of them (702, 729 and 747) were able to break through serious domestic splatter for the first time at Rockwork. 747-4QS audio was heard only 75 miles from 50 kW 750-Portland, no doubt due to the solid rock cliff helping to silence the pest on the back side.
As such, vibrant DU's were heard on 7 out of 7 days at Rockwork 4 this week, confirming a strange pattern of summertime immunity from any DU propagation collapse. Although the Cliff definitely favors New Zealand signals (with 531, 567, 603, 657, 675 and 765 very strong on 7 out of 7 days), it will greatly enhance Aussie signals as well on certain days, like today. Discovery and confirmation of this freakish cliff-side DU propagation has made this DXpedition very exciting, and the compact FSL antenna has proven to be the perfect tool for taking advantage of these concentrated South Pacific signal boosts.
531 UnID (Australian) Elusive "talker" station on top of frequency at 1300 UTC, but overtaken by the usually dominant 531-PI at end of recording. Any ideas
from Down Under? (heterodyne removed :-)
