For the past couple of nights, I've been hearing a strong 1 kHz het on WHAM
(and the usual Cuban Rebelde signals under them), coming from a carrier on
1179. This is a standard 9 kHz channel, but conditions were mediocre and not
many TA signals were evident. Given the conditions, I suspected a more
southerly path than Europe, and thought it might be the 1179 station in the
Canary Islands. I was able to get a bit of audio that sounded like Spanish
talk, but I'm still far from sure about who it was. I'll be checking for
this one again tonight, and maybe some other folks near the east coast can
give it a try.
