Hello All,
In the grand propagation scheme today was probably an "off" day for DU
signals, but it seems like the local Cliff never stops providing its
freakish boost to signals from the South Pacific-- even on days like
today. The regular 10 Kiwis (567, 594, 603, 657, 675, 684, 756, 765,
792 and 1008 kHz) showed up with good signals as if nothing had
changed, as well as the 7 regular Aussies (576, 594, 738, 774, 792, 891
and 1116). 558-A presumed Radio Fiji One finally put in decent signals
with Island Music around 1335 (although there is no // left to check
identity), and 738-Tahitit was in a snarling fight with 2NR, trading
places back and forth in a weird contest. Today's S/N pegging DU's were
567-RN, 675-RN, 738-Tahiti and 792-4RN, and the regular Aussie-Kiwi
contests were continuing on 594 and 792 kHz. The only sign of a modest
slowdown in the Cliff's torrid pace was a relatively early sunrise
enhancement collapse around 1355, although die-hard 792-2RN stuck it
out past all the others until around 1405.
Longwave DX was very good, with 153 and 279-Rossii excellent, 180 and
189-Rossii good, and 164-Mongolia at threshold level. Alaskan NDB-DX
was excellent, with 19 beacons having been received so far from that
state (including many booming signals).
One more bizarre day of this DU-DXing paradise and it will be time to
come down to earth and return to reality-- at least until I can
persuade some other Puget Sound DXing fanatics to return with me, and
enjoy the most skewed DU-DXing propagation on the planet...
