Hello All,
The lackluster weather and propagation both cleared up in time for this
morning's beach session, and several South Pacific stations were
booming in with vibrant signals. It was mostly the DU "big guns" that
were showing their strength, but several mysteries from last year were
back to add some intrigue.
A mystery DU co-channel was back under local-like 657-Southern Star
(NZ), and the same mystery pop music station from last summer was back
on 765 kHz. In general the propagation favored the Kiwis, and 567-2YA,
657-Southern Star and 675-3YA all sounded like they were right here on
the Oregon beach.
531 UnID The perennial Australian classic rock mystery station back
at 1208, without ID's of course
558 UnID Sounded like Fiji with island choral music (logged last
August), but 639 // was too weak to check
567 2YA Kiwi propagation beacon, booming in at 1215
576 2RN Presumed the station with classical music around 1222
585 UnID Rock music station back again weakly this morning
603 Radio Waatea Fair-good with Maori music at 1217
612 4QR Aussie big gun holding down the frequency with some 610
splatter
639 Radio Fiji One In and out with weak choral music from 1210-1300
657 Southern Star (NZ) The strongest DU of the morning with typical
music, over weak co-channel
666 Noumea, New Caledonia (presumed) Weak French rising above noise
level at times
675 3YA (NZ) Another stellar performer this morning, with
conversational program at 1250
738 Radio Tahiti The first South Pacific station to fade in at 1155;
very strong French conversation
765 UnID One of last year's big mysteries, this ID-averse pop music
station was back with fair-good signals
891 5AN Aussie "big gun" had great signals throughout sunrise
enhancement
73 and Good DX,
Gary DeBock (in Lincoln City, OR)
Barefoot Tecsun PL-380 Ultralight + 8" diameter Ferrite Sleeve Loop
