[IRCA] Zenith Royal 705 alignment?

Hi all...
I have a Zenith Royal 705 that I suspect may be misaligned (and also has a broken local oscillator lead which I hope to repair soon). I've seen comments here and on another forum that it's one of the hottest radios its size. However, right now its selectivity is only marginally better than the easily pocketable Sony SRF-M37W, and the sensitivity isn't as good as that radio or the similarly-sized Sony SRF-59. (I currently have an SRF-59, but no longer have an M37W - it went back to the store after I found its broad selectivity wouldn't work for the 400-600+ mile first-adjacent midday groundwave DX in the urban areas I was hoping to use it.) The PL-606 also runs circles around it in IF selectivity (keeping stations' audio from splattering much beyond its assigned channel), but I still think the Zenith, when functional, edges the Tecsun on front-end selectivity (being able to hear other signals in the presence of strong ones with a field intensity
upwards of 1 V/m or so).
So, does anyone have suggestions for where I would find an alignment procedure for that radio? I do have a schematic:

I don't know if I have stable enough test equipment to generate my own signals, though, so I may have to use local stations as an aid in alignment. I've heard of frequencies on 600, 1000 and 1400 used as alignment aids. I have locals on or near all those, 1390 being the "near" one, and 600 being the strongest (completely static free except maybe on cheap radios that wouldn't be able to even get a carrier from KFI from the eastern shore of Santa Catalina Island in southern California).
Also, once I have it properly aligned, what performance should I expect in the daytime? Should I be able to hear 1180 KERN Wasco-Greenacres (I'm about 2x beyond their 0.15mV/m radio-locator contour) with 50kW 1170 KCBQ just 9 miles north of me (and capable of a 98dBu indicated signal on the 2nd harmonic with the PL-606 and Select-A-Tenna inductively grounded to utility ground up on a nearby street), without any splatter/desense/blocking from 1170 and with fairly good (armchair copy, although atmospheric noise due to the weak signal is ok, but not muffled) audio on 1180, for example?
