Hello All,
With one notable exception, Asian signals struggled to get out of the
noise this morning, extending the recent mediocre propagation results for
yet another day. During an early band scan on the modified ICF-2010, a
strong carrier was noted at 1310 from 1566-HLAZ during its Japanese religious
program, completely out of character with the rest of the anemic TP signals.
Although none of the backyard loops had been set up yet, this vibrant HLAZ
signal was enough to produce decent audio on the stand-alone SWP 7.5"
Slider ultralight, right beside the breakfast table. HLAZ's signal held up very
well until the antenna pattern change at 1344, when its Christian interval
music prior to the switch was recorded (boosted by the 7.5' loop):

After sunrise enhancement kicked in around 1400, the usual collection
of die-hard "big gun" TP's (594-JOAK, 738-BEL2, 747-JOIB, 828-JOBB,
972-HLCA and 1134-KBS3) managed some fair audio through the domestic splatter,
although none of them were very inspiring. One rare bright spot just before
the band collapsed (around 1450) was weak English speech on 936-Anhui,
China, during its English language study program. It was a big surprise to have
any audio at all from that second-tier TP station on such a mediocre
morning, and considering its pattern of unusual strength on many days this
month, 936-Anhui may have benefited from a transmitter or antenna change.
Overall DXing results were less impressive than yesterday, though, with fewer
TP's making it through the noise. If yesterday was "low average," then today
was below average.
The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5"
loopstick), inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the back
yard). A modified ICF-2010 (30" loopstick) was used as an SSB spotting
receiver.
