[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-28

Hello All,

Overall the Asian TP propagation this morning continued to be fairly
modest, although certain unusually strong Korean stations didn't follow the
pattern. 657-Pyongyang and the 1053-Korean Jammer were really booming in,
and the 702 kHz rough-sounding carrier that had showed up on previous days
was finally strong enough to produced some audio through the 700 and 710
splatter (obsolete music, a dead giveaway for North Korea). The other Asians
were not especially vibrant, and second-tier Chinese audio was nowhere to
be found. Even 738-BEL2 was anemic all morning, a clear sign that low-band
propagation wasn't exactly superb. On the other hand, the middle high-band
Koreans were pretty vibrant, with the 1053-Jammer, 1134-KBS and 1566-HLAZ
all doing very well.
Chuck's tip of the off-frequency North Korean on 702.027 made the
difference this morning, as the rough-sounding carrier was noticeably higher
than 702. Audio was just strong enough to pull out some martial music from
around 1948 (about the time when the NK regime was installed by the
Russians). I've heard the 702 Japanese NHK2 stations at Grayland, but their
carriers are completely clean, unlike the 702+ buzz saw this morning.

The following were heard on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5"
loopstick) inductively coupled to a 9' sided PVC tuned passive loop (in the back
yard):

558 JOCR Kobe, Japan Above noise level with weak Japanese speech, 1322
594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Fair-good Japanese conversational program, 1325
603 HLSA Namyang, S. Korea KBS Korean pop music at fair level, 1329
639 CNR1 China Synchros Weak Chinese music around 1345, in and out
648 VOR Razdolnoye, Russia Chinese external program fair to good, 1357
657 Pyongyang BS Strong (and emotional) male speech at 1351; signals
           near seasonal best _http://www.mediafire.com/?g31nqkat34ut124_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?g31nqkat34ut124)
666 JOBK Osaka, Japan Fair-good Japanese conversation around 1326
675 VOV Hanoi, Vietnam Occasional fair signals (in splatter) around 1359
702 Korean Central BS Weak martial music from ragged, off-frequency
(high)
           carrier through splatter at 1347

738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan Chinese pop music program weak-fair at best
747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan Radio English program // 828, good in KXL slop
756 CNR1 China Synchros (presumed) Threshold audio at best today
774 JOUB Akita, Japan Good Radio English program but heavy KTTH slop
828 JOBB Osaka, Japan Fair-good at 1323 with Radio English program on
           clear frequency _http://www.mediafire.com/?hlkhqse0fsxmu42_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?hlkhqse0fsxmu42)
972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Korea KBS music program good at 1340
1035 China (presumed) Threshold music and speech in and out at 1330
1053  Korean Jammer  Booming in with signals near seasonal best  at 1353;
           no co-channels today
_http://www.mediafire.com/?haaj16mxi1p1aol_ (http://www.mediafire.com/?haaj16mxi1p1aol)
1134 KBS Hwaseong, S. Korea On top of the jumble with strong signals
all morning, following the Korean-slanted propagation trend
1566 HLAZ Jeju, S. Korea Good strength Japanese religious program, 1314
1575 VOA Ban Rassom, Thailand Weak with Asiatic language talk, 1315

73 and Good DX,
Gary DeBock

Chuck's original suggestion on the 702 kHz North Korean (thanks):

One great clue for telling if you have North Korea on 702 is the
frequency. They are audibly off frequency, usually around 702.027 kHz. Or you can
listen to the thrilling martial music, the ballads from 50 years ago, or
today's speech on increasing potato production. Bruce and I have been known to
get up and march around the DX table at Grayland when the music becomes too
powerful.
