UTÃ CALLING DXâERS (updated 5/5/2013 with pricing information)

The annual summer meeting of the Finnish DX Association will be held on August 2nd
-4th, 2013, on theÂbeautiful island of Uto in the Finnish archipelago. SeeÂwww.uto.fiÂfor more information on this exotic islandÂand its history.

uto_fran_luftenm

Because of its optimum location in the middle of the Baltic Sea with no local transmitters Utà has been
the site for many FM DXpeditions during the last ten years. The dxing history can be found atÂhttp://utofmdx.blogspot.fi/

Weâll also have time to see the fragile nature of this barren island and also its central landmark, the
lighthouse built in 1814. The sea in all its beauty will be all around us, and there are also reminders of its
treacherousness, i.e. memorials of sunken ships, such as m/s Park Island in 1947 and m/s Estonia in 1994.
More information on accommodation packages will follow soon.

The trip to the island will be made with m/s Eivor (http://www.rosita.fi/mseivor) that leaves at the small
harbor of PÃrnÃinen/PÃrnÃs in Nauvo (see Google maps for âNauvon merivartioasemaâ) . The trip on the
ferry is free of charge. Thereâs a small restaurant/canteen on board.

No cars are allowed on the ferry or in UtÃ, so you need to park at the harbor. Also, there is one ferry
crossing a strait on the main road. The ferry gets crowded during weekends, so preserve plenty of time for
the drive and donât believe your GPS for drive times. If youâre early, the guest harbor of Nauvo is a perfect
place for having lunch.ÂThere are bus connections to the harbor both from Turku (direct) and Helsinki (change at Piispanristi).

Buses have priority on the ferry, so you can count on their timetables given atÂwww.matkahuolto.fi.
