Re: [IRCA] AFN 1575

Thanks Walt,

Your tips on AFN-1575's programming are very much appreciated.

By coincidence, I was a military dependent at one of those locations
(Iwakuni, Japan) from 1967-69, and listened to the station all the time. I even
remember the transmitter location, close to the ocean beach. It was called
the Far East Network (FEN) then, and the frequency was 1580 kHz.

After joining the Navy myself I ended up at Yokosuka, Japan, where the FEN
station on 810 kHz was popular. That's another station that I would really
like to receive here :-)

Gary, another characteristic of AFN programming is plenty of public
service announcements, both of a local nature (like, how to interact with the
locals and keep out of trouble), and the kind heard on a state or national
level. It's not all music, that's for sure. Also, there are frequent ball
games carried as well. Somewhere in my archives I have hours and hours of
AFN programming on 1575 at armchair level...Walt
