The biggest problem with FM IBOC isn't what you have noted...its the damage
it causes to stations on adjacent frequencies.  Make a note of which locals
have IBOC, then go away from them by 40 miles or so.  You will probably find
a number of stations that come in crystal clear with very strong signals.
Then drive back towards your home while checking periodically on those same
stations.  You will probably find that a majority of them disappear under an
RF buzzsaw.  It obliterates the adjacents, as if the purpose isn't to
improve a signal so much as it is to force you to listen to your locals.
