[IRCA] Altazimuth Tilting System for Large PVC-Frame Loops
Hello All,
After some tinkering, an all-PVC altazimuth tilting system has been
developed to optimize the nulling capability of large PVC-frame passive tuned
loops.
Since the system is made completely of insulating material with no
electrical conductors (like the PVC loop frames themselves), the altazimuth
support bases can tilt the large loops without skewing the electromagnetic
reception pattern of the symmetrically-wound loop coils. The system uses six PVC
"Tee" fittings to create a support base frame, and a center "tee" fitting
which can rotate to tilt the large loops. The altazimuth support bases will
also fit in a compact car without disassembly. Two photos of the all-PVC
altazimuth tilting system have been uploaded to the Yahoo Ultralightdx photo
section, under the "Pipe Dream Traveling Monster Loop" album.
The PVC Loop experimentation has proven to be fascinating, with many
variants like Longwave, collapsible-frame, tabletop and monster MW models
developed. In particular, the lightweight frame system makes extremely large MW
loops both practical and inexpensive, even at the 10 foot diagonal dimension.
Hopefully the upcoming article will convey the unique versatility of these
effective antennas, and inspire some readers to build the loop antenna of
their dreams.
