Re: [IRCA] Perseus SDR and Slinky Flag Antenna
Kevin;
Great minds think alike! About 6 months ago, when I first saw David
Hamilton's slinky flag "loop," I also had the novel idea of shoving the
slinky's inside of wide diameter PVC pipe. Instead of two, I thought of
using four slinkys with wire between each one in the upper elbows /
corners and the torroid in one lower corner and the termination pot in
the other. This could be relatively portable (back of a pickup / van).
I have my original doodle / drawing around here, somewhere.
Another novel feature of this kind of loop, which really sounds more
like a 4 legged Ewe, is that there should be no need for a ground, as in
the normal three legged Ewe, the ground itself makes the fourth leg,
right?
I also thought about mounting a 4'X4' slinky loop on a 5'x5' piece of
pegboard.
73,
Dave

Hey Guy/Dennis:
What do the dimensions look like for the unit on the video? I am
guessing
a square about 8 feet per side. At that rate, two slinkies would do it.
For David to be picking up TA on 790 in his attic is remarkable indeed.
For those of us without an attic to exploit, I am wondering if four
lengths of PVC formed into a square would be good for this, and could
probably be taken down and reassembled easily if one was not able to
leave
it up 24/7. While David had the horizontal slinky supported with taught
string or clotheline, the horizontal PVC arms/legs could serve this
function as well. A more permanent outdoor unit could be constructed
using wide-diameter PVC formed into a square, such that the slinky was
able to run inside the PVC and be sealed up.
Hmmm... I think I'm suddenly busy this weekend....
