Part III:  Masset 2 January, 2009:  A poor start, but a real Japanese pipeline later!
 
Started listening around 14:15 this morning and noted the lower MW band very poor, while the upper half was much better.  Dawn was at 17:09 UTC this morning (9:09 local).  Things really picked up later on, though, with a good variety of signals.  SF was 69, A index had risen to 8, while the K index at 12:00 UTC was 1.
 
     The Russians were present on 180, 189, 234 and 279 this morning.
 
594:  JOAK managed a 8 level at best at 14:15.
603:  KBS2 and cochannel Chinese at 16:39.  Much stronger at 8 level than the earlier 6.
693:  NHK2 at 9 level at 14:30.
711:  KBS1 at 8 level at 16:41.
720:  North Korea at 8 level on 719.9 at 16:43.
738:  Taiwan Fisheries Station with strong signal at 9 level // to 1593 and 1143.
747:  NHK2  not a good performer this time on the Charlottes.  7 level only at 14:34.
774:  9 level for NHK2 at 14:42
819:  Inspirational EZL music and Chinese talk cochannel to North Korea at 16:46 and better at 9 level by 17:33.
828:  NHK2 at 8 level at 14:44 plus cochannel.
945:  CNR1 best at 16:50 at 8 level.
972:  Korea at 9 level at 14:51.
981:  CNR1 at 16:54 at 9 level.
990:  CNR2 at 16:58 at 8 level.
999:  North Korea on 998.93 at 17:05 at 8 level.
1017:  CRI Korean at 7 level.
1035:  CNR1 at 7 level.
1071:  JOFK and cochannel at 8 level at 17:08 //594.
1080:  North Korea cochannel to KUDO at 17:10 at 7.5 level.  My PAL shows a sign-off of 15:00 though.
1170:  KJNP North Pole, AK totally dominated this channel today after 15:00.
1179:  JOOR at 17:15 at 8.5 level.
1242:  Strong orchestral music JOLF at 17:18 at 9 level.
1269:  Japanese // to 1287 at 17:21
1278:   ditto
1287:  ditto
1305:  KBS1 at 17:22 // to 711 at 8 level.
1314:  JOUF at 9 level at 16:29.
1332:  JOSF at 9 level at 17:23
1350:  JOER at 9 level at 16:32
1377:  CNR1 at 9 level at 17:24.
1386:  9 level NHK2 and EZL music cochannel at 15:19
1413:  JOIF at 7 level.
1440:  JOWF at 9 level // to 1314
1449:  JOQM // to 1287 at 15:22 at 9 level.
1458:  Chinese at 7 level.
1494:  JOTL // to 1314 at 9 level (and not // to 1287!)
1503:  Very strong 9 level NHK1 JOUK presumed at 15:28.
1512:  DZAT ID at 8 level at 16:08.
1548:  Brisbane at 7 level.
1557:  WYFR at 16:04 at 8.5 level.
1566:  Strong cochannel to HLAZ thoughout morning.
1575:  VOA at 13;59.  VOA and AFN at 15:30.  Quite certain I heard an ?AFN Misawa? ID at 17:42:30.  Generic AFN ID at 16:00 though.  9 level.  By 18:33 my North mini-Beverage yielded Radio Farda, while the NW wire continued with AFN.
1593:  Chinese Fisheries at 16:03 // to 1143, and 738 at 16:45 at 7 level.
