I had a few minutes and was parked in a rather electrically quiet spot. I
nulled local WPRO-630 and got a great signal from CFCO-630. Nulled my
strongest local, WPRV-790 and got CIGM-790 in perfectly well. The other day
I nulled WHJJ-920 and CKNX-920 owned the null. Tonight on 920 was a
religious station that I didn't bother waiting for an ID. Supper happens..
Conditions are either quite remarkable, or there are a lot more stations
simply ignoring the night pattern switch. None of the ones I just heard
really should have given me an S-9 signal and totally override the nulled
remainder. 790 is the first station in RI in 1921, 920 was right after
that. 630 has been around in one form or another since the 30's. All three
were established before the 1941 major freqency hop, and should have been
well protected.
Oddly, when I nulled WDDZ-550 all I heard was a very weak bit of what was
likely the VT station. Nothing else really was audible. It was nulled to
invisibility.
I need to put together an article on this antenna system. It's a
combination of a large ferrite rod and 68" vertical whip on my truck. They
are combined with a simple two-potentiometer level control box. It has a
0/180 degree switch on the loop side, and three ferrite toroid transformers.
No phase adjustment at all. I just turn the loop a little to find the
optimal spot. I think this would work quite well in the house.
