Re: [IRCA] Sort of On-Topic radio announcement...

A neighbor who was a very active HF band amateur radio operator sparked
my interest in radio in 1965 when I was 13. I never saw him use code. He
always used voice in AM or sideband mode. I still remember sitting in
his northern Illinois ham shack one Saturday evening and being allowed
to talk to an amateur who was maritime mobile on a private yacht in the
Caribbean. I tried for many years to get an amateur license but could
not master the code. Over the years I probably purchased every code
learning aid that was available. As an adult I eventually discovered
that I was slightly dyslexic and that was why I couldn't learn the code.
I often wonder how much I lost in my life because of that ridiculous and
outdated code requirement. When the code requirement was finally
eliminated for VHF and above (could that have been almost 16 years ago
now?) I was one of the very first no-code techs to be licensed. And,
more recently, when code was finally eliminated for the HF class
licenses I was one of the very first to upgrade. I am proud to be a code
free General class licensee. And I am planning to upgrade soon. MORSE
CODE SUCKS!
