In some ways, it wasn't that great... there weren't that many signals
around. And it was a July classic of Asia early and DU late, but what
WAS there was pretty wonderful... I listened from 1200 to 1245. The
first sweep up the band showed 747 and 774 JJs, with 774 leading. The
second time up the dial caught the North Korean off-channel 855.055
with a good het and a bit of audio (a first for either, this season)
and then I hit 963 just as it was rapidly rising. I expected Southern
Star from Christchurch, but as it got stronger, I realized that it
wasn't EE and then I knew it was Russian, Running world news at 1208,
with mentions of Mongolia, Dalai Lama. It was surely Govorit Pekin
for maybe my first-ever Chinese in July. Certainly the first from
here in July. Hoo-Haw! Can the Fall Season be far behind?
The only other Asian noted was 828 JJ// but much weaker than 774 at
1217. After that, it was all DUs and not a particularly good showing.
The audios were 531, 567, 576, 585, all quite weak, 612 hitting 8 at
peak of 1239, 675 and 756 briefly, 936(poor) and 1116 several times
poorly. The star of the DU show was, you guessed it, 963. at 1234,
Christchurch's Southern Star was walking tall with a very solid 8,
running a semi-contemporary Christian hymn by a male vocalist.
Things lasted until after 1247, with 702 2BL Sydney being the last to appear.
Happily for my sanity, things were back on their proper antennas, the
DUs on the West wire and the Asians coming in on the NW one, so
whatever funny bump in the ionosphere there was the last couple of
mornings has subsided.
For sure, some mornings ARE better than others :>)
