Chris, you must be very careful when reading the Census Bureau results.
There are many caveats to consider. Also consider that the census
results for Denver (population 588,349 at the July 1, 2007 estimate)
only represent about 24% of the Denver Metro population (2,464,866).
The 2006 census indicated that 82.8% of the population of Denver is
white and 34.8% is Hispanic or Latino. Read directly those two groups
alone add up to 117.6%. The sometimes misleading caveat in the census
statistics is that Hispanics and Latinos can also be counted as part of
any race (white, black, etc). The same is true for any other ethnic
group. For example, there are white and black Asians. The 82.8% white
statistic should include members of all of the groups who consider
themselves as white.
