Re: [IRCA] Survey of Participants in the Recent Ultralight DX Sprint

Hey David,

Thanks for the reply, and I certainly understand that all of us must
live within the limits of our finances, as we enjoy this new ULR fascination.

In the beginning of the Ultralight radio boom, about 99% of AM-DXers
were skeptical that these pocket radios could receive anything other than
strong locals, so the only way to spread interest in the ULR's was to send out
some free samples (mostly to Canada), publicize, write reviews, and hope that
new enthusiasts (like Rob Ross, Kevin Schanilec, Gil Stacy and others) would
join the promotional cause. The current popularity of the ULR movement is
entirely based on dedicated volunteer efforts, like those of Gil and John, in
sponsoring the recent Sprint Contest.

As you might guess, after multiple shootout reviews and other equipment
testing, I do have some extra, fine-performing ULR units that I am willing
to send to any MW DXer who finds it difficult to purchase a new unit-- please
contact me off-list if you are interested in one of these.

Yes, I know that Curtis is a great MW DXer, and ULR enthusiast. He
sent me an inoperable SRF-49 as a gift, but it was an easy fix, so I sent it
back to him repaired and aligned. He didn't need to pay me anything, but he
sent a very generous check anyway.

Thanks again for your interest in Ultralight DXing, David, and best
wishes to you in exploring this fascinating new niche in the AM-DXing hobby.

    73, Gary DeBock
